May 1, 2024 7:28 am. Congratulations to Ms. Maya Krishnan, a senior currently at La Jolla Country Day School (LJCDS), who will be attending her top choice college at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, MA in the fall to study biological sciences/biological engineering! What an amazing achievement. Maya has been very dedicated in the lab for the past 2.5 years and is in the process of submitting her mansucript on cell-based amelioration of neuroinflammation.
In addition, congratulations to Maya for being her LJCDS 2024 class valedictorian and earning the 2024 Trustee’s Award for highest cumulative GPA, amongst other awards and recognition:
February 17, 2024 3:23 pm. Congratulations to Ms. Hollis Halpern, a senior currently at Canyon Crest Academy, who will be attending her top choice college at the University of Chicago in the fall! Way to rock that UC sweatshirt Hollis! Hollis has been diligently working in the lab for nearly 2 years!
December 27, 2023 4:45 pm. Professor Yung delivered a well-received seminar talk at the Institute for Biomedical Sciences (IBMS) at Academia Sinica in Taiwan, titled “Developing a Cutting-Edge Paradigm for Personalized iPSC-Derived Cell Therapies” at the invitation of Distinguished Research Fellow Professor Jou Yuh-Shan. The seminar was attended by numerous notable faculty, including current and future chairs of the IBMS department, VP of the Development Center for Biotechnology (DCB), and other notable stem cell experts.

October 12, 2023 3:30 pm. Congratulations to Maya for being recognized by the New York-based Child Mind Institute! She was chosen as one of five high school awardees to present her scientific research in the Yung Lab to over 3000 attendees at their annual 2023 On the Shoulder Giants Scientific Symposium. In addition, she was given a $2000 honorarium to be spent for college.

September 4, 2023 7:42 pm. The Yung Lab is honored to receive a donation from the Halpern family to support our studies on glioblastoma brain tumors and therapies. Special thank you to Hollis and the Halpern family again for being your generosity.

Congratulations to our high school students who have earned their 2023 SURE summer program certificates and given such inspired scientific talks after just 20 days of working with faculty and the labs. Imagine the possibilities! Special mention goes to Eshika and Mia for their dedication, enthusiasm, and deep dive into iPSC-based cancer vaccines.
July 17, 2023 6:05 pm. The Yung Lab welcomes Ms. Eshika Pallapotu and Ms. Mia Caron to the Scintillon Institute’s summer SURE program. This intense, 4-week program will provide them the hands-on bench research experience, daily lectures and didactics, and camaraderie amongst the best students in San Diego to determine if STEM, biosciences, and research is right for them.

March 16, 2023 Congratulations to Maya for winning 1st place in the Biomedical Sciences and Biomedical Engineering category in the Greater San Diego Science Fair, for her project titled “Human Dermal Fibroblasts as a Novel Therapeutic Agent to Treat Neuroinflammation.” Further congratulations on this 1st place achievement - 2 years in a row! Her hard work and long hours dedicated to every aspect of this project is highly commendable.
